Come noto, la bella Scarlett Johansson sarà la protagonista principale della pellicola, che è attesa nelle sale cinematografiche per il prossimo 31 marzo. Per quanto riguarda Ghost in the Shell, inoltre, durante il Comic-Con di San Diego, la Kodansha ha annunciato di essere al lavoro per il lancio di una edizione deluxe del lavoro di Masamune Shirow, che comprende Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell 1.5, and Ghost in the Shell 2, in sincrono con il debutto del film nelle sale.
Paramout Pictures e Dreamworks Pictures sono i produttori del film Live action di Ghost in the Shell, diretto da Rupert Sanders (Biancaneve e il cacciatore) e basato sulla serie manga di Masamune Shirow, Ghost in the Shell.
Nel cast figurano anche Michael Pitt (l’Uomo che Ride). Takeshi Kitano (Daisuke Aramaki), Juliette Binoche (Dr. Ouelet), Pilou Asbæk (Batou) e Kaori Momoi. I membri della Sezione 9 sono interpretati da Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara e Tuwanda Manyimo. Il regista è Rupert Sanders (Biancaneve e il Cacciatore), mentre Bill Wheeler (Il fondamentalista riluttante) e Jonathan Herman (Straight Outta Compton) hanno scritto la sceneggiatura.
