In corsa per il miglior film anche il biopic sull'ex First Lady degli Stati Uniti d'America
La cerimonia si svolgerà il prossimo 25 febbraio 2017, il giorno prima della consegna degli attesi Oscar: si tratta dell'edizione 2017 dei Film Independent Spirit Awards, della quale sono state poco fa svelate le nomination. In lizza per il premio come miglior filmci sono pellicole del calibro di American Honey, Chronic, Jackie, Manchester by the Sea e Moonlight. In corsa per il riconoscimento di miglior attore anche Viggo Mortensen per Captain Fantastic, mentre come miglior opera prima c'è anche Swiss Army Man, film di cui si è parlato moltissimo per il contenuto da molti criticato.
